Born on June 20, 2001, in Olhão, in Portugal’s Algarve region, Gonçalo Ramos got into football thanks to his father, a former player, who naturally introduced him to the world of the game. From a young age, he was already turning heads. Initially playing as a midfielder, he scored 30 goals per season, quickly setting himself apart from the other kids, and climbed the ranks at lightning speed.
At 12 years old, he joined the Benfica Academy, after having previously been turned down by... Sporting. At the Lisbon club, the Portuguese striker made a name for himself. Exceptionally consistent, he played 46 matches in all competitions in 2021–2022, and 47 matches the following season — his most prolific — scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists. During the 2022–2023 season, “O Pistoleiro” (The Gunslinger) notably crossed paths with Paris Saint-Germain. He scored 7 goals in 14 Champions League appearances, only to be stopped by Inter Milan, eventual finalists, in the quarter-finals. Performing on the European stage — the perfect way to solidify his name.
But that wasn’t all. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Gonçalo Ramos burst onto the global scene with the Portuguese national team, scoring a hat-trick in the Round of 16 against Switzerland in a 6–1 win — his second, third, and fourth international goals. These exploits sparked widespread interest, and in the 2023 summer transfer window, the young striker chose Paris to take the next step in his career.
