A few days after Paris Saint-Germain secured their place in the UEFA Champions League final, this event in London also felt like a reunion for the fans. Spurred on by the energy and creativity of the PSG Fan Club London, the capital club fans were soon sending the Parisian chants echoing around the stands at Brentford.
“We weren’t allowed to bring the drum in, but we managed to sneak the drumsticks through. At first, we wanted to use a bin as a makeshift drum, but security stopped us. So we adapted: we started tapping on the seats in the standing area to keep the beat, before using our shoes as drumsticks. In the end, it made the English stewards laugh a lot, and they ended up getting fully into the spirit of things.”
The highlight of the evening came from the neighbouring stands. Drawn in by the atmosphere in the Parisian away section, a group of young English supporters gradually made their way over, eventually joining in the chants right up until the final whistle.
At the end of the match, the players and staff came out to celebrate the victory with their supporters, with the youngsters lifting the trophy to the cheers of the Parisian away fans soon after. Chants sung in unison, PSG Fan Club London scarves presented to the players, and souvenir photos extended this wonderful evening in London, creating a real sense of togetherness between the pitch and the stands. As they parted ways, a few words were enough to seal the next meeting: “See you in Budapest.”
