Less than a week after being crowned French champions at the Accor Arena, our Parisians once again demonstrated some impeccable team spirit, this time against Chambéry! Despite there being little at stake, Stefan Madsen’s men fought to the end to secure their 28th win in 29 matches. Leading by six goals at half-time (30': 12-18), the capital club saw the home side stage a spirited comeback after the break. Determined to turn the game around and secure a fifth-place finish, Asier Antonio’s men put Paris under pressure in the closing stages, even taking the lead (53': 27-26) before a double from Luc Steins and Elohim Prandi’s eighth goal secured victory for the Champions of France (60': 28-29).
On 6 February 2025, Paris Saint-Germain Handball announced the signing of Emil Mellegard from the Danish side HOJ Elite, with the move set to take effect the following summer. Almost a year later, with just two matches remaining this season, the Swedish international finally made his competitive debut for the capital club. Having suffered a cruciate ligament rupture, our new signing showed remarkable resilience to overcome this setback and return to his best form.
One thing is certain: the left winger made a strong impression on debut for Les Rouge et Bleu. Dynamic, always in the thick of the action and full of ideas, Emil Mellegard needed just ten minutes on the court to open his scoring account for Paris. The outcome of this first evening was more than satisfactory, with three goals scored from as many attempts. On Saturday, our No.9 should have the opportunity to take to the court at Coubertin for the first time - in the final match of the 2025–2026 season.
With this latest victory, Paris Saint-Germain edged closer to an historic season. On Saturday, against Tremblay, the capital club will be looking to finish the campaign without suffering a single league defeat. A feat that would go down in the annals of French handball, as only USM Gagny (1986–1987), OM Vitrolles (1995–1996) and our Parisians (2021–2022) have achieved this feat.
For further context, the 1986-1987 season comprised 22 matchdays, whilst OM Vitrolles’ feat was achieved in a 26-matchday season. Thus, only the capital club has managed, during the 2021-2022 season, the feat of going 30 matchdays without defeat. It is worth noting that four years ago, Raul Gonzalez’s men made history by being perfect, winning all 30 of their Liqui Moly StarLigue matches. A feat never achieved before. Paris also finished the 2019-2020 season unbeaten, but this achievement must be viewed in the context of the championship being halted after 18 matchdays due to the COVID crisis.
This match against Tremblay will be memorable for a number of reasons. Firstly, because it marks the end of a thrilling season and, second, because Les Rouge et Bleu will lift their 13th French league title in front of their home crowd. It wil also be notable because several players will be leaving us this summer as their contracts expire. So we hope to see plenty of you there to cheer on the capital club one last time, and to pay tribute to Jannick Green, Gautier Loredon, Jacob Holm and Sindre Heldal for their final match at Coubertin in the Parisian colours.
