With the exception of their draw away to Pelister in the EHF Champions League (34-34), Paris Saint-Germain Handball had won all their matches in 2026 and were in excellent form as they prepared to play host to Toulouse. This week, Stefan Madsen’s men defeated reigning European champions Magdeburg at Coubertin (34-26), securing fourth place and a home return leg in the play-offs.
Sitting atop the Liqui Moly StarLigue standings, two points clear of Nantes, the capital club were keen to maintain their excellent form against Fénix, currently sixth in the league and in line for European qualification. It promised to be a thrilling clash at Coubertin in the final match before the international break.
The opening moments set the tone, with Luc Steins scoring the first goal, followed by a save from Mikkel Lovkvist from a seven-metre throw. In commanding form against Magdeburg, Elohim Prandi was at it again, scoring two early goals, and the Parisians took an swift lead (5': 3-1). Our Danish goalkeeper was in command, preventing Toulouse from scoring a second goal for several minutes, helped of course by his aggressive and well-organised defence.
The capital club that dominated proceedings at the end of the first quarter of an hour, looking every bit the league leaders and favourites in this clash (15': 7-2). In this match between the league’s two best defences, it was the Parisian attack that made the difference, even though, as the minutes ticked by, Fénix managed to find some cutting edge. Midway through the first half, the contest became more evenly balanced (21': 8-6).
As expected, the match was fairly tight, with both sides taking turns to capitalise on their strong spells. The introduction of former Toulouse player Ferran Solé, who scored three goals, gave Stefan Madsen’s men a much-needed boost (26': 11–7). With Mikkel still in inspired form, Paris headed into the half-time break with a comfortable lead, poised to seal the win in the second half (30': 15-9).
Ferran started the second half just as he’d finished the first, hitting on the counter and scoring his fourth goal to immediately get his side on the front foot once again. Les Rouge et Bleu came back from the dressing room in fine form and continued to put Danijel Andjelkovic’s men under pressure (35': 18-11). Our last line of defence, meanwhile, continued his stellar performance by making a tenth save of the match!
The capital club seemed unstoppable after the restart, landing blow after blow on the Toulouse defence (41': 22–13). They displayed great variety in attack, with no fewer than five players scoring four or more goals. The Parisians kept winning the ball back and punishing their opponents on the counter. Meanwhile, Mikkel was relentless, leaving Fénix precious few opportunities as he set a new personal best for saves in the league (17).
With fluid movement, Les Rouge et Bleu treated a jubilant Coubertin crowd to a real show (50': 27-14). Ferran Solé confirmed his excellent form with a ninth goal of the evening, and in doing so showed that he particularly enjoys facing his former club, against whom he has scored the most goals. In ominous form, the Parisians secured a comfortable victory over Fénix and continued their excellent start to 2026 (60': 39-21).
Paris Saint-Germain will return to action after the international break with an away match at Nîmes on 27 March (20:00), followed by a home game against Istres on Sunday 5 April (16:00). PSG will look to preserve their Liqui Moly StarLigue lead in these two league matches before hosting Veszprém in the first leg of their highly anticipated EHF Champions League play-off on 1 or 2 April.
