James, Cordier, Lucea, Diandaga (Coulibaly, 73'), Boly, Jangeal, Diyinu Nzinga, Abo El Nay, Chtai Telamio (Nsoki, 81'), Mounguengue (Ly, 71'), Ayari (Idder, 81').
Beaten by the narrowest of margins in Barcelona in the last outing (2-1), Les Rouge et Bleu were looking to bounce back at Bayer Leverkusen on matchday three in the league phase of the UEFA Youth League.
After a strong start by Paris, marked by a blocked shot from Chtai Telamio, the game became more evenly balanced. Leverkusen had the first real chance of the match, with a long-range free kick pushed away for a corner by our goalkeeper Martin James (36').
After a fairly uneventful start, Leverkusen's players pressed forward and finally found the breakthrough. Following a corner that was poorly cleared by the Parisian defence, Massey sent the ball back into the box and Burak Kir beat James from close range (1-0, 37'). Les Rouge et Bleu had possession in the first half but failed to create enough clear-cut chances. They went into the break frustrated at the Ulrich-Haberland Stadion.
After the break, Paris Saint-Germain immediately sought to apply pressure and created a huge chance from a free kick, with Chtai Telamio's fine header well saved by German goalkeeper Schlich (47'). A few minutes later, he was called into action again by Mounguengue (50'). The capital club's dominance was finally confirmed by a goal from Abo El Nay following a fine team move (1-1, 53').
Les Titis kept pushing and were awarded a penalty for a German handball. Mathis Jangeal converted the spot kick, sending Schlich the wrong way (1-2, 55'). In two minutes, Paris had turned the game around. However, Leverkusen had not had their last word, and from a cross by Massek, who was clearly on form, Julien Kurowski equalised with a header (2-2, 64').
Les Rouge et Bleu pushed forward again and took control of the ball from their opponents. But, clumsy with the final ball, they failed to make the difference a third time in the match. In added time, Leverkusen had one last chance, with Berghoff narrowly missing the target from inside the box (90'). The match ended in a draw.
The Parisians will face another German club, Bayern Munich, on matchday 4 in the league phase of the UEFA Youth League. The match will take place in Poissy and kick off is at 2pm on Tuesday 4th November.
