Biography

Born on 19 June 2002 in Sintra, on the outskirts of Lisbon, Nuno Alexandre Tavares Mendes began playing football at Despertar in Casal de Cambra and was quickly spotted by the country’s biggest clubs.

One year later, he joined Sporting CP and entered the club’s prestigious academy. There, the left-footer developed rapidly in his role as a full-back and represented every level of Portugal’s youth teams: U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 in 2020. In Lisbon, he helped Sporting win their first league title in almost two decades and lifted the League Cup and Portuguese Super Cup, all at just 17 years of age. That same year, he made his senior Portugal debut and took part in Euro 2020.

The tournament was followed by his move to Paris Saint-Germain, officially completed in the final hours of the summer transfer window. In the French capital, the young left-back quickly found his place in the Rouge et Bleu squad, notably being named Ligue 1’s best young player in 2023. Since arriving, the Portugal international has won 14 trophies and played a major role in the two Champions League triumphs under Luis Enrique. His club success has also been matched at international level, with his first major trophy coming in the 2025 Nations League.
