Stats & Facts: A look back at the Rouge et Bleu's European Supercup triumph
A Rouge et Bleu team of steely resolve
Luis Enrique and his men got the new season off to the best possible start on Wednesday. Just a week after returning to training, the club from the capital became the first French club to win the UEFA Super Cup when they beat Tottenham in a thrilling penalty shoot-out. However, our European champions had to dig deep to overcome the Londoners, who held a two-goal lead with ten minutes of normal time remaining.
The Parisians once again proved their mental strength by overcoming such a gap for the third time this year, having managed to reverse the situation in the Champions League against Manchester City (4-2) and in the Coupe de France against Dunkerque (4-2). In the penalty shoot-out, Luis Enrique's men once again went through all manner of emotions, but had the last laugh thanks to a final strike from Nuno Mendes. Paris are starting to become experts in this exercise, having won five of their last six penalty shoot-outs.
Substitutes make the difference
Against Tottenham, it was Luis Enrique's tactical changes that made the difference. Lee Kang-In, who came on as a substitute with 20 minutes to go, gave his side hope by reducing the deficit with a splendid finish five minutes from the end of normal time. It was the Korean international's second goal off the bench in his last five games in all competitions for Paris, proving his ability to make the difference when it counts.
The equaliser came from Gonçalo Ramos, who once again proved decisive off the bench. The Portuguese striker has found the net in two of his last three appearances, taking his tally to 16 goals in all competitions in 2025, the second-highest total for a member of the capital club behind Ousmane Dembélé, with 27 goals this year.
