Having come through the ranks at Benfica in Lisbon, Renato Sanches played his first match with the clubs first team in October 2015. Quickly becoming a starter, he helped secure the league and League Cup double in the 2015–2016 season.

Transferred to Bayern Munich the following summer, the Portuguese international made 53 appearances, scored 2 goals, provided 3 assists and collected nine trophies with the Bavarian side. He also featured in the Premier League during the 2017–2018 season while on loan at Swansea City.

Renato Sanches then discovered Ligue 1 when he joined Lille OSC in August 2019. Over three seasons, the midfielder played 90 matches (6 goals, 10 assists), winning the 2021 French league title and the 2021 Trophée des Champions.

He moved to Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window in 2022, wearing the number 18 shirt and making 27 appearances with 2 goals in the 2022–2023 season. Loaned to AS Roma the following year, Renato Sanches featured in 12 matches and scored once.

Last season, he returned on loan to his formative club Benfica, where he played 21 matches and scored 1 goal.
