The contrast between home games at Coubertin and away games has been striking for our Parisians at the start of this season. Defeated in Magdeburg (31-37), Szeged (31-29) and Plock (35-32) but victorious at Coubertin against Pelister (33-27) and Zagreb (35-32), the capital club seems to be dependent on the extraordinary atmosphere they enjoy in the west of Paris. However, in terms of points, the gap with the top two is widening, and Stefan Madsen's men need to get a win if they are to pull away from GOG, currently sixth and level on points with the Parisians.
For the visitors, this return to Europe's top club competition after a year's absence is a learning experience. Although they were defeated in Barcelona (37-32) and at home to Szeged (31-36), Kasper Christensen's men are also capable of causing upsets, as evidenced by their victories in Pelister (28-31) and Zagreb (31-36). GOG have thus proven that they are capable of winning in hostile environments - fair warning for the capital club to redouble their intensity at Coubertin on Thursday.
If you are not yet familiar with this name, the chances are you will be in the coming months and years. At just 20 years of age, the Faroese centre-half has been racking up the goals for several years already. He was the best player and top scorer at the EHF Euro U18 in 2022 with 80 goals, at the Euro U20 two years later with 76 goals, and also at the recent U21 World Championship last June (73 goals). Oli Mittun is a real sensation, a rising star who has chosen to continue his development with the Danish team after starting his career in Sweden with Sävehof. This choice is understandable when we remember how GOG dazzled Europe last season when they won the EHF Youth Club Trophy, the equivalent of the EHF Champions League for young players.

At 24, the Danish left winger is already a key player in this young squad. The club's top scorer in the Champions League after five matchdays with 39 goals, Frederik Bjerre has made an exceptional start to his career. Having arrived from Holstebro this summer, he could be one of the main threats at Coubertin on Thursday, having found the net eight times against Zagreb on the last matchday and nine times against Magdeburg earlier in the season.
With 25 goals scored so far in the Champions League, the young right-back is also enjoying a solid start to the season - already his third Champions League campaign. Further proof of the emphasis on youth development at GOG.
Several exciting fixtures await us on Matchday 6, including the clash between Plock and Barcelona, who are both on eight points after six games. This clash could prove crucial in the fierce battle for the second and final qualifying spot for the quarter-finals. At the bottom of the table, Zagreb will be looking to pick up their first points of the season against Szeged, while Pelister travel to Magdeburg with the aim of ending the defending champions' perfect record.
