Two weeks after their successful debut in the competition against Lille (2–0), the Paris Saint-Germain Women’s team returned to Coupe de France action and to the pitch of the Campus PSG for the Round of 16 clash against Montpellier HSC. Under the Paris-region sunshine, Paulo César’s players started the match with intensity and enthusiasm, denying their opponents possession for the first half hour of play.
This clear dominance was rewarded with a deserved opening goal from Romée Leuchter, who unleashed a powerful strike under the crossbar to finish off a superb team move through the middle of the pitch (1–0, 34'). A goal that put Paris firmly on track and allowed the Rouge et Bleu to head into the dressing room with a one-goal advantage over their counterparts from Hérault.
The second half got underway at the same pace as the first, with the Rouge et Bleue continuing to dominate and camped in the opposition half. Just before the hour mark, Jackie Groenen doubled Paris’s lead with a magnificent strike that left the Montpellier goalkeeper with no chance (2–0, 58').
Moments later, it was Merveille Kanjiga’s turn to beat the young Ceylin Yilmaz with a quick shot at the near post, after the Parisian forward took advantage of the outstanding work through the middle from Sakina Karchaoui (3–0, 60'). Overwhelmed, the visitors were swept away by relentless Parisian waves, and Romée Leuchter made it four by completing her brace with a free kick (4–0, 64').
And Paulo César’s players had no intention of easing off, as shown by the Dutch striker, who completed her hat-trick to seal the Parisian victory (5–0, 68')! At the end of a one-sided encounter, the Paris Saint-Germain Women’s team cruised to a comprehensive win over Montpellier, booking their place in the Coupe de France quarter-finals.
Now, the side's focus can shift to next Sunday’s Arkema Première Ligue showdown, with the visit of OL Lyonnes to the Parc des Princes. A gala fixture against the reigning French champions, with kick-off set for 15:00 at the iconic Porte d’Auteuil stadium. The date is set!
