After defeating France on the final day of the group stage, Germany qualified for its first major tournament final since winning Euro 2016 against Spain. Meanwhile Croatia, obliged to make a tough trip from Sweden, where they played the main round, were up against a German team that was visibly fresher physically.
Dagur Sigurdsson's men held out well for most of the first half, but then fell victim to the Germans' clinicial finishing as they cinceded five unanswered goals after the break. The six-goal gap was too big to close for Mateo Maras and his team, who nevertheless put up a good fight until the end, almost managing to close the gap in the final minutes.
However, the tournament is not over for Croatia, who will face Iceland on Sunday at 15:15 with the aim of winning the bronze medal at this European Championship, one year after winning silver against Denmark at the World Cup.
