For many years now, Paris Saint-Germain has been fortunate to have world-class goalkeepers in its ranks. From Patrice Annonay to Thierry Omeyer, via Vincent Gérard, Andreas Palicka and Rodrigo Corrales, fans of the capital club have been able to thrill to the spectacle of their saves. It was in the summer of 2022 that Jannick Green joined this group, having just been crowned German champion with SC Magdeburg. Jannick arrived in Paris on the cusp of his 34th birthday, bringing welcome experience to a rejuvenated squad that was just waiting to come of age.
Our last line of defence is now set to return to his native Denmark, joining HØJ Elite. Before that, the four-time Danish world champion emphasised that what matters right now is securing another title in the Liqui Moly StarLigue: “I’m trying not to think too much about the end of the journey; I’m just focusing on the chance to win this title with the team. ”
This fourth French championship title with Paris could be secured as early as this Wednesday, 27 May, should they win the crunch match against Nantes at the Accor Arena. It would be a fitting way for Jannick Green to come full circle. Back in 2023, it was also against Nantes, on Matchday 29, that he clinched his first national title in France.
Winning one last title in France’s most iconic arena would undoubtedly be another moment etched forever in the career of the man from Lemvig. Since 2022, Jannick has amassed many unforgettable memories in the red and blue jersey, starting with his first match for Paris in the 2023 Champions League Final4. Of all the matches he has played, it is the two-legged tie against Kiel in the quarter-finals of that same 2022–2023 season that stands out most in his memory, particularly the electric atmosphere at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin.
“Fortunately, there are plenty of great memories. My first match, the Final4 in Cologne, the various titles we won… Perhaps the best was the Champions League quarter-final against Kiel in 2023. We played so well, and the atmosphere at Coubertin was incredible.”
At 37, Jannick Green is now one of the most experienced players in the squad, alongside Luka Karabatic, who is a year his senior. Beyond his role on the court, it is in the dressing room, working with the younger players, that he has taken on a mentoring role.
While the capital club has seen several young players emerge from its youth academy in recent years, the Parisian goalkeeper has taken it upon himself to support the goalkeepers, such as Léo Villain, who is now shining at Sélestat, as well as Stanis Soullier and Mikkel Lovkvist, with whom he has formed the new first-team duo since last summer.
“I don’t know if I’ve managed to pass anything on to the youngsters, but I always try to be open and show a good attitude in training to demonstrate that you have to give your all every day. If players have questions, I’m always there to have a discussion, and I don’t hesitate to say when others are doing something well. That’s how we can discuss technique and improve.”
Since joining the club in the summer of 2022, Jannick Green has achieved numerous successes in the red and blue jersey. Be it at team level, with three French league titles (2023, 2024, 2025) and a Trophée des Champions (2023), or individually, with memorable performances such as his 21 saves against Tremblay in 2025 or his 18 saves in Zagreb earlier this season, which stands as his career record in that competition.
He now has three final matches left with the capital club: at the Accor Arena against Nantes, at Le Phare against Chambéry, and at Coubertin against Tremblay. Three matches, three iconic venues in French handball, and three opportunities to shine one last time.
With just a few days to go before he steps back onto the court at the Accor Arena, Jannick Green has fond memories of a venue that was the setting for the Coupe de France final – Nikola Karabatic’s last club match of his career on 31 May 2024 – and which also saw the team clinch their 11th French league title: “The Accor Arena is a magnificent venue for handball. It will be a great and wonderful celebration against Nantes.”
One thing is certain: our Danish goalkeeper will do everything in his power to ensure that this 183rd match in the Parisian jersey becomes an unforgettable memory as he closes the book on his adventure in the City of Light.
