Marcos Aoás Corrêa, better known as Marquinhos, came through the ranks at Brazilian club Corinthians before making his first steps in Europe at AS Roma in 2012. After 30 appearances for the Italian club, he was identified by Paris Saint-Germain’s recruitment department and signed for the capital club in summer 2013, aged just 19. He quickly established himself at centre-back, forming an outstanding partnership with Thiago Silva. He took over the captain’s armband from his fellow Brazilian following the latter’s departure in summer 2020, a few weeks after playing in the first UEFA Champions League final in the club’s history.
Marquinhos made his 436th appearance in Rouge et Bleu in April 2024, becoming the club’s all-time leading appearance maker ahead of Jean-Marc Pilorget. A cornerstone of the team for almost a decade, he wore the captain’s armband in the Champions League final won against Inter Milan (5-0) on 31 May 2025, Paris Saint-Germain’s first triumph in the competition. Less than a year later, he was again in the starting XI against Arsenal (1-1 a.e.t., 4-3 pens.), achieving the historic feat of winning the competition twice in a row.
With 38 trophies won in Paris Saint-Germain colours, he is one of the most decorated players in football history and, thanks to his longevity and reliability, a true Rouge-et-Bleu legend. Marquinhos has also left his mark internationally, earning more than 100 caps for Brazil, with whom he won Olympic gold at Rio 2016 and the Copa América in 2019. He played at his third World Cup in 2026.
