Check out the standout stats and facts from Paris Saint-Germain's 2–1 win over Olympique de Marseille at the CEPAC Vélodrome yesterday (Matchday 5 of Ligue 1).
Last night, Les Parisiens recorded their 54th all-time win over Olympique de Marseille across all competitions. Only Nantes, with 56 defeats at the hands of Les Rouge et Bleu, have been beaten more often by the capital club's men's team.
This victory also means that 16 of the last 21 Classiques across all competitions have been won by Paris Saint-Germain, with Marseille winning just three of them alongside two draws.
By scoring the evening's opening goal, Ferran Torres continued his impressive start to life with Les Rouge et Bleu. The Spaniard has now netted seven times in his first six appearances for Paris across all competitions, with only Zlatan Ibrahimović having done better than this in the club's history by scoring eight goals in the same number of matches.
A few minutes after Ferran's opener (and then Marseille's equaliser), Marquinhos scored Les Parisiens' second goal of the night. It was a pretty symbolic one for our skipper, too, as he became the first Paris player to score against Marseille while wearing the captain's armband since that man again, Zlatan Ibrahimović, who did so in October 2013.
Luis Enrique's men gave the Marseille defence very little respite at the CEPAC Vélodrome as they notched up no fewer than 31 shots, which is Paris's highest shot tally in a Ligue 1 game against OM since Opta records began for the competition back in 2006–2007. This figure also comes close to the capital club's all-time top-flight record in this respect, which is their total of 35 shots against AC Ajaccio in 2013.
In addition, this vital win for Les Rouge et Bleu away to their archrivals means that their fine current form continues. Having thrashed Slovan Bratislava 6–1 in the UEFA Champions League and then beaten Brest 1–0 in Ligue 1, Paris bagged a third straight victory – and what better game to do it in than Le Classique?
