The first player to have worn the colours of both Paris Saint-Germain and Aalborg is Slovenian, and his name is Goran Kozomara. Having spent one season at Aalborg (2007–2008), the former pivot arrived in Paris in the summer of 2011. The Celje native, who won the now-defunct European Super Cup in 2005 against Kiel with his hometown club, stayed with the capital club for one season before ending his career at… Aalborg.
His departure coincided with the arrival of an extraordinary player. A transfer that would change the history of Paris Saint-Germain Handball – and handball in general – forever. Arriving straight from Copenhagen following the Danish side’s liquidation, Mikkel Hansen landed in France as the world’s best player. Having been voted as such by the IHF just a few months earlier, the former left-back took the capital club to a whole new level.
Over ten seasons, the Dane won 21 trophies – joint-top with Luka Karabatic – and left the club as its all-time leading goalscorer (2,321 goals), with his shirt retired and hung from the ceiling at Coubertin. The number 24 has become iconic and timeless. In 2022, Mikki returned home to finish his career in Aalborg, before hanging up his boots for good after winning a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games - in the City of Light.
During his decade in Paris, Mikkel Hansen played alongside many of his Danish national team teammates. Several of them also have a connection with Aalborg, a club that has established itself as the dominant force in Danish handball in recent years.
Among them is Henrik Mollgaard. The current assistant coach at Paris Saint-Germain also wore the Rouge et Bleu jersey for three seasons (2015–2018), before he too ended his playing career at Aalborg (2018–2025). A true defensive linchpin, he formed a spectacular trio with Mikki and Sander Sagosen, who still plays for the Red and Whites.
Like Kozomara, the left-back is on his second spell with the Scandinavian side, having previously joined Paris from Aalborg in 2017. Over the course of three seasons, the Daikin StarLigue MVP filled his trophy cabinet before continuing his career in Germany, Norway and then, since February 2025, in Aalborg.
Following Henrik Mollgaard’s departure for Aalborg, it was Henrik Toft Hansen who took over in defence. The former pivot, however, enjoyed a long career between his spells at the two clubs. Having played for Aalborg between 2006 and 2011 – where he notably helped the Scandinavian club win its first-ever league title – the former Danish international played in Denmark (Copenhagen, alongside a certain Mikkel Hansen, and Bjerringbro-Silkeborg) and in Germany (Hamburg, Flensburg) before settling in Paris in 2018.
Over the course of five seasons, he had time to win every possible trophy on the domestic scene, before returning to his native Denmark to join Mors-Thy Håndbold. After retiring last June, Henrik immediately became assistant coach at his club, which reached the semi-finals of last season’s Herre Handbold Ligaen.
In 2022, Paris welcomed a new goalkeeping duo following the departures of Vincent Gérard and Yann Genty. Jannick Green and Andreas Palicka arrived from Magdeburg and the Swedish side Redbergslids IK respectively. Our two Scandinavians would leave their mark during their time at the capital club, and both had delighted Aalborg for several seasons.
Whilst Andreas Palicka spent just one season there (2015–2016) between two spells in Germany (Kiel and Rhein-Neckar Löwen), Jannick Green came through the ranks at the Red and Whites. Alongside Henrik Toft Hansen, he was part of the squad that won Aalborg’s first league title in 2010. Having left the capital club this summer, Jannick Green has thus brought an end to a long-standing tradition. Since 2011 and the arrival of Goran Kozomara, at least one player in the squad had previously played for Aalborg at some point in their career.
