France defeat England in Women's Euro 2025 opener

Parisians Elisa De Almeida, Sakina Karchaoui, Grace Geyoro, Griedge M’Bock, and Thiniba Samoura were in the France squad that secured an opening-game win over holders England at UEFA Women's Euro 2025.

In front of 22,000 fans at the Letzigrund Stadion in Zurich, France's women's team recorded a ninth successive win. Three capital club members were in the starting XI: Elisa De Almeida, Sakina Karchaoui, who captained the team, and Grace Geyoro. Griedge Mbock and Thiniba Samoura were unused substitutes. The win puts France second in Group D behind the Netherlands, who play France on Wednesday in St. Gallen following their 3-0 defeat of Wales.
