Born on 3 April 1996 in Los Palacios y Villafranca, Fabian Ruiz soon joined Real Betis’ academy, where he made his professional debut during the 2014-2015 season. Loaned to Elche for half a season in 2017, he established himself back at his boyhood club the following summer, catching the eye of European scouts. In 2018, he joined Napoli, becoming an important member of the team and winning the Coppa Italia in 2020. His performances in Italy earned him a move to Paris Saint-Germain, where he signed in 2022.
In the capital, he became a key part of Luis Enrique’s team when the Spanish coach arrived in 2023. He scored in the Coupe de France final against Olympique Lyonnais in May 2024 (2-1). Over the following two seasons, he formed a formidable midfield trio alongside Vitinha and João Neves and played an active role in the club’s first two Champions League triumphs, starting both finals, against Inter Milan in 2025 (5-0) and Arsenal in 2026 (1-1 a.e.t., 4-3 pens.).
Fabian quickly made his mark with Spain, from the youth categories onwards. He won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2019 and was named player of the tournament. Under Luis de la Fuente, he was a starter for La Roja during their victorious 2023 Nations League and Euro 2024 campaigns. On 19 July 2026, for his 50th cap, he started in the World Cup final victory over Argentina (1-0 a.e.t.).
