Paris has lost a Red-and-Blue legend. The rangy forward (1,87 m, 80 kg), born in N’Djamena, experienced independence in Chad before moving to France aged 21, on 30 décembre 1973.
He started in Grenoble in the amateur league before joining Albi in the third tier. His goalscoring talents caught the eye and he moved to the professional ranks after just six months at Nice, whom he joined in 1975. He then played for Bordeaux and Strasbourg, winning the French league title with the latter, and Valenciennes. His 12 goals in 25 D1 games in the 1979-80 season convinced Paris Saint-Germain to sign him and pair him with Dominique Rocheteau in attack.
He scored in the Coupe de France final vs. Saint-Étienne (2-2, 6-5 pens., 15/05/1982) and then got the decisive goal against Nantes (3-2, 11/06/1983), before netting an eye-catching half-volley in the European Cup against Lokomotiv Sofia (5-1, 28/09/1982).
With 43 goals in 171 games, he became a familiar figure to fans at the Parc des Princes between 1980 and 1985. After a difficult final season, the Chad international (17 caps) joined Racing Paris before retiring.
In 1989, Toko returned to Paris Saint-Germain as an assistant coach in charge of analysing the Club's league opponents. After switching to the recruitment group, he eventually left the club in December 1998 to live in the south of France, where he died on Monday 9 February 2026.
The Club and its President send their sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
