By beating FC Barcelona on Tuesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain have once again made their mark on the European stage. The capital club have now won their last three clashes with the Blaugranas, becoming only the second team in Champions League history – after Bayern Munich – to achieve the feat. And what's more, the Parisians' incredible performance at the Parc des Princes put an end to Barcelona's 11-match win streak in all competitions, handing the Catalans their first defeat of the season!
The victory also saw Les Rouge et Bleu to extend their impressive unbeaten run in Europe’s most prestigious competition. With 13 consecutive unbeaten matches in the Champions League (nine wins, four draws), Luis Enrique’s men have equalled the club’s longest-ever such run in the competition, set between October 2012 and November 2013.
With four more goals – from Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernández, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz – Paris Saint-Germain continue to make their mark in the Champions League. Now with 14 goals after just three matches in this 2026-27 campaign, Les Rouge et Bleu have equalled the highest tally in the competition’s history at this stage of a single campaign, set by Arsenal during the 2010-11 season. This attacking prowess is particularly evident at the Parc des Princes, where the Parisians have now scored at least four goals in each of their last three European home matches. It is a run not seen in the competition since… FC Barcelona, who managed four such performances in a row between September 2016 and March 2017.
And the statistics from this latest win over the Catalans are even more mind-boggling. With no fewer than ten shots on target in the first 45 minutes, the capital club set a new Champions League record for a single half since Opta began analysing the competition (2003-04). And their performance was made all the more remarkable by the fact that FC Barcelona had never before conceded so many shots on target in a single half in the competition!
On the scoresheet once again on Tuesday evening, Désiré Doué continued his fine run of form in the Rouge et Bleu shirt. Set up by João Neves for the opening goal, the French international found the back of the net for the third consecutive match across all competitions – a feat he had previously achieved only once at club level, when he scored in four consecutive matches between March and April 2025. Also providing the assist for Lucas Hernández a little later in the match, the Parisian No.14 thus confirmed his outstanding current run of form.
And what can we say about Vitinha! Also on the scoresheet against the Blaugranas, the Portuguese midfielder continues to stand out for his formidable long-range accuracy. With 14 of his 29 goals for Paris scored from outside the box – that’s 48 per cent of his goals – Paris Saint-Germain’s No.17 has a hell of a shot: since the start of last season, no player in the Champions League has scored more goals from outside the box than the Portuguese international, who has sniped four goals from range. European defences have been warned!
