Born in Olhão, in southern Portugal on 20 June 2001, Gonçalo Ramos joined the Benfica youth academy in 2013. He made a stunning professional debut for the Lisbon club in July 2020. At just 19 years of age, he came on in the 87th minute of the league game against Desportivo Aves and netted a three-minute brace!
In the 2021-22 campaign, he featured regularly and also got his first taste of Champions League football. An instinctive finisher, Gonçalo Ramos opened his continental account with a goal in the quarter-finals against Liverpool in April 2022.
The following season, he became an undisputed starter, scoring 27 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions. He also celebrated his first call up to the Portugal national team, against Nigeria on 17 November 2022, finishing with a goal and an assist. Fernando Santos then named the right-footed striker in his final squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he netted a hat-trick against Switzerland in the round of 16. He currently counts ten goals in 26 caps for the Selecção.
Having joined Paris Saint-Germain on 7 August 2023, Gonçalo Ramos made his first start in Rouge et Bleu five days later at the Parc des Princes, against FC Lorient. A few weeks later, he netted his first goal for the club in the best possible way with a brace in the 4–0 victory over Olympique de Marseille in Le Classique. In his first season in the French capital, he made 40 appearances, scoring 14 goals and providing two assists.
The following season, the Portugal star regularly made the difference in the dying moments of matches. He sealed Paris Saint-Germain’s victory in the 3-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais by scoring the Parisians’ third goal in the 88th minute. A few weeks later, he equalised against RC Lens in the Coupe de France before seeing Les Rouge & Bleu secure their place in the next round via a penalty shoot-out (1–1, 4–3 on penalties), in a run that would lead them to the final victory. He was also a key figure in the club’s historic Champions League campaign, notably finding the net in a thrilling encounter against Manchester City during the league phase (a 4-2 victory), contributing to a campaign that culminated in Paris Saint-Germain’s first title in the competition.
Gonçalo Ramos began the 2025–2026 season in similar fine form, etching his name into the history books at Paris Saint-Germain, just like his compatriot Pedro Miguel Pauleta before him. Scoring Paris’s second goal in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham (2–2, 4–3 on penalties), he helped his side equalise with just seconds remaining before lifting the trophy for the first time in their history. He would later secure a prestigious victory for Paris Saint-Germain away to FC Barcelona in the Champions League with a 90th-minute goal (2–1), before repeating the feat against Olympique de Marseille in the Trophée des Champions by equalising in stoppage time (90+5’), enabling the capital club to win on penalties (2–2, 4–1 on pens.). By the end of the season, he had made 45 appearances, scored 12 goals and provided two assists, whilst winning a second consecutive Champions League title with the capital club.
In three seasons in Rouge et Bleu, Gonçalo Ramos made 131 appearances, scored 45 goals, provided 10 assists and won twelve trophies, including two Champions Leagues, thereby making his mark on the club’s history.
Paris Saint-Germain thanks Gonçalo Ramos for his professionalism, his commitment and his contribution to the club’s recent success, and wishes him all the very best for the rest of his career.
