Chevalier Profile
A TALENT FROM THE NORTH
Born in Calais and with LOSC since the age of 11, Lucas Chevalier perfectly embodies the tradition of talent from the north of France: robust, hard-working and discreet. From his very first appearances for the club's youth teams, he has established himself as a safe pair of hands in goal. His calmness, ability to read the game and impressive reflexes earned him the attention of French football observers early on.
His formative career has been marked by steady progress and solid performances in all youth categories. In 2021-2022, when he was loaned out to Valenciennes in Ligue 2, he immediately proved that he was ready for the top level. A full season, with 30 matches played, enabled him to return to Lille with a completely different status, even though he was officially the 3rd-choice goalkeeper for the Nord outfit, which had won the French league title the previous season.
A RAPID RISE
So much so, in fact, that he discovered the very highest level at breakneck speed, and played his first Ligue 1 match on 10th September 2022, at the age of 20, against... Olympique de Marseille! Since then, Lucas Chevalier has gone from strength to strength. He became the undisputed starter for LOSC, and played in the Champions League with Les Dogues last season, finishing 8th in the League phase and thus qualifying directly for the Round of 16.
An accomplished season, as these statistics prove: 11 clean sheets, the second-highest total in Ligue 1 behind Brice Samba. 3rd best goals conceded ratio per game (1.06). He is also one of just 5 Ligue 1 goalkeepers between 2024 and 2025 to have played every possible minute in the league!
And these stats also shine on the continental stage: among the goalkeepers in Europe's top 5 leagues in all competitions in 2024-2025, Chevalier has made 147 saves, the 10th best total! He is close behind Mike Maignan and Thibaut Courtois (165), as well as Emiliano Martinez (156), Yann Sommer (149) and Gregor Kobel (148). All this in 48 matches played for LOSC over the season, just 7 fewer than David Raya, the Arsenal goalkeeper who reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals...
The best goalkeeper in Ligue 1 and named in the league team of the season at the latest UNFP Awards... Chevalier, still so young, is already at the top table. After all, at the time of joining Paris Saint-Germain and donning the red and blue shirt, Lucas Chevalier was the goalkeeper born in the 21st century with the most appearances in Europe's top 5 leagues with 99!
??? DID YOU KNOW ???
Now called up to the French national team, Chevalier began his career as... an outfield player! With his brother's team lacking a goalkeeper, Lucas was asked to don the gloves. He never looked back and his destiny has since changed.
