Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Willian Pacho's Ecuador lost 1–0 to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage on Monday 15 June 2026.
In a very evenly matched game, the Ecuadorians created the best chances in the first half, hitting the woodwork on several occasions, but were denied a solid Ivorian defence.
In the second half, the two teams continued to trade blows and the match seemed headed for a draw. But in the dying moments, Côte d’Ivoire made the difference through Amad Diallo, who latched onto a cutback from Wilfried Singo to secure victory for the Elephants (1-0, 90’).
