Alessandro, how do you feel now that you’ve signed for Paris Saint-Germain?
“First of all, I’d like to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos and Luis Enrique for the opportunity they’ve given me and for the trust they’ve placed in me. When I got the first call, I felt immense excitement and great joy. At the same time, I knew this was exactly what I’d always wanted. I’ve always worked very hard, waiting for an opportunity like this, and now it’s arrived. I’m very happy, and I’m going to keep working as hard as I always have to repay that trust.”
What made you want to join Paris Saint-Germain?
“It’s an opportunity to test myself and train with a great coaching staff and world-class players at a state-of-the-art training centre. We’re talking about a club that has won two Champions Leagues in the last two years. It’s a major institution that has grown and progressed tremendously over the past twenty years. The presence of the coaches and players here obviously played a big part in my decision. I’m convinced that at Paris Saint-Germain, I’ll have the opportunity to continue to grow, both as a goalkeeper and as a man.”
How would you describe yourself as a ‘keeper?
“I like to describe myself as a well-rounded goalkeeper. I enjoy helping my teammates by coming off my line to cover open spaces. I also like to help build up play with my feet and, of course, make saves, which remain a goalkeeper’s primary responsibility.”
And off the field, how would you describe yourself?
“I think I’m a calm, level-headed and very rational person. I always try to keep my feet on the ground and continue to work very hard.”
You’ll soon be getting to know the PSG Campus. What will that mean to you?
“I’m really looking forward to it. We’re talking about one of the most beautiful training centres in Europe, if not the world. I can’t wait to train there and work every day alongside some of the greatest champions.”
What are your goals as you join Paris Saint-Germain?
“I’m still young and have a lot to learn, both on and off the field. Discovering a new country and a different culture will also be very enriching on a personal level. On the pitch, I’ll be learning new training methods, and I hope that will help me improve in every aspect of my game.”
