The third European fixture left a lasting impression. Away to Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning Bundesliga runners-up, Paris produced a spectacular display of football to secure one of the standout victories of their campaign: a stunning 7–2 win. Désiré Doué scored twice, while Willian Pacho, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Nuno Mendes, Ousmane Dembélé, and Vitinha all joined in what became a true attacking masterclass.
But Europe also brings setbacks. Against Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes, Luis Enrique’s men fell short despite a goal from João Neves. The match was marked by a brace from Luis Díaz and the enforced early exits of Ousmane Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi during a 2–1 defeat.
Three weeks later, however, Paris rediscovered its momentum in a completely wild night against Tottenham Hotspur F.C.. Trailing twice during the match, the Rouge et Bleu turned things around in a spectacular 5–3 victory, inspired in particular by an exceptional hat trick from Vitinha!
To conclude their European year, Paris Saint-Germain travelled to the electric atmosphere of San Mamés to face Athletic Club. Despite controlling the match and creating numerous chances, the Parisians were frustrated by the Basque side’s defensive resilience and had to settle for a disappointing 0–0 draw. The next trip took the Rouge et Bleu to Portugal to face Sporting CP. Despite another goal from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Paris fell against the run of play as the Portuguese side capitalised on their opportunities to win 2–1.
To close out the league phase, the club from the capital hosted Newcastle United F.C. in a decisive final showdown. After Vitinha opened the scoring, the Parisians were pegged back, but still secured qualification. With a record of four wins, two draws, and two defeats, Paris Saint-Germain finished the opening phase in 11th place, earning a seeded spot in the play-off round for qualification to the Round of 16. In this format, Luis Enrique’s side demonstrated personality, resilience and collective strength against some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
