Born on January 21, 1996, in Palma de Mallorca to a Spanish father and a Dutch mother, Marco Asensio first started playing football in 2006. At the age of 10, he joined the RCD Mallorca club. Named Marco in reference to Marco Van Basten, his natural talent with the ball at his feet quickly convinced the club’s management to promote him to the first team.
In 2015, he caught the eye of Real Madrid, who didn’t hesitate to sign him. Shortly after the transfer, Marco Asensio was loaned to RCD Espanyol for the 2015-2016 season. There, the young talent proved himself as a mature and visionary playmaker. During the season, he provided ten assists in the league. He then returned to Real Madrid, where he gradually established himself.
In 286 appearances wearing the Madrid shirt, he scored 61 goals and provided 28 assists. At 27 years old, he already boasts an impressive trophy haul: 3 Champions League titles, 3 Spanish Super Cups, 3 La Liga titles, and 1 Copa del Rey. He also plays for the Spanish national team and won the 2023 UEFA Nations League, starting in the final with La Roja. Reuniting with compatriots Carlos Soler and Fabián Ruiz, he embraced a new challenge by joining Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023.
