Born on 6 November 1997 in Gothenburg, Emil Mellegard began his career in Sweden with Redbergslids IK, where he played from 2013 to 2020. He then spent four seasons in Germany with HSG Wetzlar.
He joined Danish club HØJ Elite for one season and helped the team earn promotion to the top flight for 2025-26. He did not stay on, however, signing for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2025. During pre-season with the capital club, he suffered a serious injury that kept him out for almost the entire campaign.
He returned for the final two league matches, making a decisive and energetic contribution as he was crowned French champion with the Rouge et Bleu. A Sweden international since 2017, Emil Mellegard won EHF EURO 2022 with his country, playing eight matches during the tournament.
