Biography

Born on 16 May 1990 in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, Bjarki Mar Elisson began his professional handball career with UMF Selfoss in 2008. After four years at HK Kopavogur, he made his international debut in 2012 and moved to Germany a year later when he signed for newly promoted Bundesliga side ThSV Eisenach.

After relegation to the second division, he led the club back to the top flight, finishing as top scorer with 289 goals. That performance earned him a move to Füchse Berlin, where he won the IHF Super Globe against Veszprém immediately after arriving. He retained the title the following year by beating Paris Saint-Germain Handball in the final. An EHF European League winner in 2017, he cemented his status as a leading player in his position before leaving for Lemgo two years later, where he finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer in his first season with 216 goals.

Bjarki Elisson joined Veszprém in 2022 and made his EHF Champions League debut at the age of 32. He won several domestic honours during four seasons with the Hungarian club before taking on a new challenge by signing for Paris in the summer of 2026.
