Fontenay are no stranger to making waves in the competition. In the 21st century, the Vendée-based club has already reached the Round of 64 of the Coupe de France on six occasions, ahead of a seventh appearance against Paris. And in those six matches, VFF progressed to the next round four times, most recently during the 2012–2013 season against AS Muret Football, who were then competing in National 3.
As reigning champions following their victory over Reims at the Stade de France last season (3–0), Paris Saint-Germain are the most successful club in the history of the Coupe de France, with 16 titles and no fewer than 21 finals played. On their journey to victory last season, the Rouge et Bleu also overcame another National 3 side, FC Espaly, who nevertheless put up a strong fight against Les Parisiens (4–2).
8 – Gonçalo Ramos has scored 8 goals for the Rouge et Bleu in the Coupe de France: no player boasts a better record from the Round of 64 onwards in the last two editions of the cup.
57 – Paris Saint-Germain have won 57 of their last 60 matches in the Coupe de France.
69 – Paris have found the back of the net in 69 of their last 70 matches in the Coupe de France, with a total of 212 goals scored during the period, that's an average of more than 3 goals per match.
Founded in 1991 following a merger, Vendée Fontenay Foot quickly established itself as a leading club in the Vendée, despite fierce competition and a particularly high number of amateur and semi-professional clubs in the surrounding area. Since its creation, the Fontenay-le-Comte club has competed exclusively at national level, spending 14 seasons in the fifth division and 19 in the fourth tier of French football.
Currently playing in National 3 since 2018, the Fontenay club defeated Chamalières (N3) in the 7th round of this year's Coupe de France (0–0, 4–3 on penalties), before making a major statement in the previous round by knocking out Châteauroux (N1) in emphatic fashion (4–1).
