Check out the key numbers ahead of the game between Paris Saint-Germain and Stade Rennais FC, which kicks off at 20:45 CEST tonight (Matchday 1 of Ligue 1) at Roazhon Park.

Who will succeed Vitinha in scoring Paris’s first goal of the Ligue 1 season? On the opening day of the 2025–2026 campaign, the Portuguese midfielder popped up shortly after the hour mark to net Les Rouge et Bleu’s only goal in a 1–0 win over FC Nantes. Meanwhile, the fastest-ever goal that Les Parisiens have scored to kick off a league season was Gabriel Calderón’s volley in the second minute of a 3–3 draw with OGC Nice on 22nd July 1989.

Just one Paris Saint-Germain player has managed to score a hat trick against Rennes: Nenê, in a 3–0 win on 13th May 2012.

It was against Rennes that Paris earned its first Ligue 1 point of the QSI era, thanks to a 1–1 draw in Brittany on 13th August 2011.

Les Parisiens have not only avoided defeat in each of their last five opening-day outings but have also racked up four wins and one draw in those games: 2–1 away to Troyes in 2021–2022, 5–0 away to Clermont in 2022–2023, 0–0 at home to Lorient in 2023–2024, 4–1 away to Le Havre in 2024–2025 and 1–0 away to Nantes last season.

This season, the capital club will be aiming to win its sixth consecutive Ligue 1 title, which would see it inch ever closer to Lyon’s record of seven straight French men’s league titles between 2002–2003 and 2007–2008.

Edinson Cavani, Ángel Di María and Kylian Mbappé are Paris’s top scorers against Rennes, with seven goals to each of their names. In this respect, they sit ahead of both Neymar Jr and Dominique Rocheteau (six goals scored each) as well as Pauleta, Nenê and Zlatan Ibrahimović (four goals scored each).

This fixture has become a regular feature of Les Rouge et Bleu’s existence in recent years, with tonight’s match set to be the 36th encounter between the two teams since August 2011. During this period, they have met each other 29 times in Ligue 1, four times in the Coupe de France, once in the Coupe de la Ligue and once in the Trophée des Champions, with only Lyon (38 matches) and Marseille (36 matches) having faced Les Parisiens at least as often in that time. Meanwhile, Paris’s record against the Breton club in the QSI era stands at 22 wins, five draws and eight losses.

In their 36 competitive meetings with each other since 19th September 2010, Rennes and Paris haven’t played out a single goalless draw.

This is Paris Saint-Germain’s 53rd consecutive season in the French men’s top flight since the club’s promotion from the second tier back in 1974.

This will be the 88th all-time competitive fixture between Paris and Rennes, with the head-to-head record currently sitting firmly in the former’s favour, as Les Parisiens have notched up 45 wins, 19 draws and 23 losses. Note: this total only takes into account Paris’s games against SRFC’s first team and not the ones against its reserve team in 1972–1973.
