A RETURN TO WRITE A NEW CHAPTER WITH 2028 IN SIGHT
After wearing the Rouge & Bleu colours until 2025, the five-time Olympic champion returns to Paris Saint-Germain today to write a new chapter in this shared history.
By committing through to 2028, Teddy Riner and Paris Saint-Germain are reaffirming their desire to take on new sporting challenges with the biggest international competitions in their sights.
This new collaboration goes beyond sporting performance alone. A major figure in world sport and an ambassador for the Club's values, Teddy Riner will help bring the Paris Saint-Germain project to life by inspiring younger generations of judokas, strengthening links between the Club's different sections, supporting PSG for Communities initiatives, and helping to raise the Club's profile in France and internationally.
20 YEARS OF SHARED HISTORY WITH PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN
The story between Teddy Riner and Paris Saint-Germain spans two decades. Already a Club athlete at the beginning of his career, the champion naturally returned to the Rouge & Bleu colours when the judo section was relaunched in 2017. Beyond his sporting achievements, Teddy Riner has become one of the faces of Paris Saint-Germain, embodying the values of excellence, ambition and self-improvement championed by the Club.
The 2.03m-tall giant began building his incredible record at the age of 17, winning a European title and a world title at junior level in 2006. The following year, he achieved a remarkable feat by claiming his first European senior title, before becoming the youngest male world champion in judo history.
Over the years, he has amassed an impressive total of 11 world titles and five European titles in individual competition. Between 2010 and 2020, he set a record with a run of 154 consecutive victories. During this remarkable period, he notably became Olympic champion in the 100kg+ category at the London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016) Olympic Games, after winning bronze at his first Games in Beijing in 2008.
Upon returning to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 when the judo section was relaunched, Teddy Riner became the leading figure of the sporting project. He thus followed in the footsteps of the great Olympic champions who left their mark on the history of Paris Saint-Germain Judo, including David Douillet and Djamel Bouras in the 1990s.
Over the years, Teddy Riner has continued to add to an already exceptional record. He added three more world titles to his tally (in the 100kg+ and Open categories in 2017, followed by 2023). At the Tokyo Olympic Games, he won gold in the mixed team event alongside his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Romane Dicko, as well as a bronze medal in the 100kg+ category. At the same time, he contributed to Paris Saint-Germain Judo's two victories in the French men's team championships in 2022 and 2023.
This exceptional journey continued in 2024. Teddy Riner won the Paris Grand Slam for the eighth time, taking his record number of victories in the French capital to eight. After claiming his eleventh world title in Doha in 2023, he also won gold in each of his first five appearances of the 2024 season — including three Grand Slam events — as part of his preparation for the Paris Olympic Games.
At the Arena Champ-de-Mars, Teddy Riner won two more Olympic gold medals, in the individual and mixed team events alongside his Paris Saint-Germain teammates Romane Dicko, Marie-Ève Gahié and Joan-Benjamin Gaba, taking his total to five Olympic titles and further cementing his status as the greatest judoka of all time. A few months later, he helped Paris Saint-Germain win the inaugural edition of the mixed Judo Champions League, adding another major team title to his history with the Club.
