Paris Saint-Germain added another chapter to the Club's history with the 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup.
The capital club claimed their fifth European title (excluding the Intertoto Cup) to become the fourth team to win the UEFA Super Cup in successive years after Ajax (1973, 1974), AC Milan (1989, 1990) and Real Madrid (2016, 2017).
The victory also means that PSG are unbeaten in 11 continental contests with seven wins in that run. It's the club's third-longest such streak ever behind the unbeaten 20-game run between March 2001 and November 2002, and the 13-game series without a European defeat between October 2012 and November 2013.
Paris' record against English opposition is even more impressive. In Salzburg, they registered their eighth win in an 11-game unbeaten run against teams from across the Channel. Only Real Madrid - with a 12-game unbeaten run between 2011 and 2017 - have ever done better.
Their impressive European domination is thanks in large part to remarkable consistency in front of goal. Against Aston Villa, Paris SG found the net for the 29th consecutive game in all competitions and are closing in on the Club's all-time best run: 36 matches with at least one goal between September 2019 and July 2020.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has registered at least one goal involvement in eight of his last nine European games, with eight goals and three assists. Since arriving at PSG, the Georgian has netted 16 of his 28 goals for the club outside of Ligue 1. That's 57% of his total and the highest ratio among players who have scored at least 15 goals in all competitions for the Rouge et Bleu.
Ousmane Dembélé has now been involved in 13 goals in as many games with PSG with eight goals and five assists. Against Aston Villa, he registered a fourth assist for Désiré Doué, behind only Kvara, who has teed up his young teammate on five occasions.
Désiré Doué scored and assisted against Aston Villa becoming the first player to do so in the UEFA Super Cup since Luis Suárez in 2015. It's also the third time he has had a hand in at least two goals in a final for PSG following his two assists in the Coupe de France final against Reims and his brace of goals and assist in the 2025 Champions League final against Inter Milan.
Willian Pacho once again showed his importance to the team as he completed all 70 of his passses. Since his summer 2024 arrival, it's the fifth time he has had a 100% pass completion ratio having attempted at least 50 passes in a game. That's more than any other player in Europe's top five leagues during that period.
And Luis Enrique has picked up his sixth European title as a coach: three Champions Leagues and now three UEFA Super Cups.
Our captain Marquinhos has now won 40 trophies with Paris Saint-Germain. He's the first player ever to have won that many titles with a single club!
