Renars, why did you choose to join Paris Saint-Germain?
“I’m really delighted to be joining Paris. A new experience awaits me, with a new culture and a new country to discover, but also the chance to play for the biggest club in the world. It’s a huge pleasure for me. When I arrived here, I was impressed by the club’s facilities. Everything is extremely professional and designed to help players develop, both on and off the court. It’s exactly the sort of environment you want to be part of. I also needed a new challenge. For a handball player, having a club like Paris Saint-Germain sign me is a dream come true. I was delighted when this opportunity arose and I’m thrilled that everything has worked out for both parties.”
What are you looking forward to in this new adventure in Paris?
“I’ve heard a lot of good things about the French league, which is recognised as one of the best in the world. I can’t wait to take on this challenge. I’ll also be experiencing the Champions League with Paris, which will be a first for me. As a team, we have big ambitions. We want to dream big and turn some of those dreams into reality. Of course, it will be a huge challenge. The Champions League brings together the best teams in the world, but that’s precisely what makes it so exciting. With the German national team, I’ve already had the chance to play at the very highest level, and I now want to bring those qualities to Paris Saint-Germain. My aim is to help the team improve and achieve its goals. It won’t be easy, but the challenge is the same for all the clubs taking part in this competition.”
How would you describe your playing style?
“I like to play all-round handball. I don’t want to limit myself to just one aspect of the game, whether it’s shooting or one-on-one duels. I try to combine all my strengths and choose the best option depending on the situation. I think that’s one of my main strengths. I also try to draw the defenders’ attention in order to create more space for my team-mates. Ultimately, I simply want to give the team what it needs to win.”
What are your goals while playing for Paris?
“I’d like to leave a real mark on the club’s history. Paris Saint-Germain have never won the Champions League, and that’s one of my biggest dreams in coming here: to achieve something that’s never been done before. If, over the course of the seasons, we manage to achieve that goal, we’ll create an incredible memory for the club, for the fans and for ourselves. It’s that ambition that drives all the players to work hard every day.”
A final message for the Parisian fans?
“The squad is full of top-class players and I can’t wait to get to know them all, both on and off the court. You always discover a different side to people when you spend your days with them, and I’m looking forward to experiencing that. I’m really very happy to be coming to Paris. I’ll give my all so that we can share some great moments together. I’ll bring all my energy, passion and style of play to the team. I hope the fans are as keen to see me as I am to meet them.”
