The latest heatwave, following a series of successive and exceptional heatwaves that have affected the Paris region this summer, has significantly accelerated the deterioration of the pitch at the Parc des Princes. The pitch is now severely damaged, just days before the Paris Saint-Germain – Stade Rennais match scheduled for Sunday, August 23 at 8:45 p.m. as part of the first matchday of Ligue 1.
In light of this situation, the French Professional Football League (LFP), in consultation with Paris Saint-Germain, carried out an assessment of the condition of the pitch. This assessment concluded that the current conditions did not allow the match to be played under satisfactory conditions, particularly with regard to the safety and physical integrity of the players, which remain the absolute priority.
In order for the match to take place on the date and at the time originally scheduled, it was therefore decided, in agreement with the LFP and Stade Rennais, that the match would be played in Rennes, at Roazhon Park, on Sunday, August 23 at 8:45 p.m.
Paris Saint-Germain fully understands the inconvenience caused by this change for its supporters and for all those who had planned to attend the match at the Parc des Princes.
The Club regrets this exceptional situation and will provide ticket holders with all the relevant information regarding the applicable arrangements as soon as possible.
Paris Saint-Germain would like to thank Stade Rennais, the City of Rennes and the Ille-et-Vilaine Prefecture for making it possible for the match to take place in Rennes.
In parallel, Paris Saint-Germain teams have already identified a solution to replace the pitch at the Parc des Princes ahead of the upcoming matches, beginning with the home fixture against AS Monaco on September 4, 2026, as part of the third matchday of Ligue 1.
