Having missed out last season, Les Parisiennes returned to Europe's premier club competition and its new leaue format for the 2025-26 edition.
Paulo César's side were on the road to German outfit Wolfsburg, a tough test against the two-time winners. Paris started in a 3-5-2 formation, with Gaetino, De Almeida and Mbock at the back, in front of goalkeeper Earps. Carmona and Ajibade were the wing-backs, with Karchaoui, Groenen and Echegini in the midfield and Kanjinga and Leuchter in attack.
Paris went on the attack from the get-go, only to be caught cold with Wolfburg's first set piece of the evening when Popp's glancing header from a corner was bundled over her own goal-line by the hapless Groenen (1-0, 7').
The German side was denied a second goal by Earps, saving at the feet of Zicai (15'), before Popp headed wide (27').
Joe Echegini led the fight-back, firing over after good lead up play from Karchaoui on the right (29'). The champion of Africa then saw her powerful shot saved (31'), before Kanjinga shot over from near-range from De Almeida's cross (32')!
Out of luck in attack, things got worse for Paris when Peddemors slotted home a second for the hosts just before the break (2-0, 42').
Trailing by two goals at the interval, Paris sought in vain for a way back into the contest, only to be denied by a solid German defensive display. Kanjinga had two good chances to pull a goal back, including a header from another De Almeida cross, saved again by Johannes (73').
Popp rubbed salt into the wound with a third (3-0, 90'), before a penalty from Wolfsburg captain Minge completed the scoring (4-0, 90+5'). Paulo César and his side have the opportunity to bounce back immediately with the visit of Real Madrid on Matchday 2 next week.
