Our youth academy lads were up against Saran Loiret's reserve team at home in the Alexandre Lippmann hall on Saturday 18 October. It was a top-of-the-table clash that yielded a hard-fought battle, with Saran emerging victorious. The Parisians were only two goals behind at half-time (10-12), but they cracked in the second half despite showing some impressive attacking play (23-27).
Tidiane Firmesse delivered a superb performance, bagging an impressive haul of nine goals. Left-back Thomas Omeyer, nephew of former Rouge et Bleu goalkeeper Thierry Omeyer, was his team's second-highest scorer with four goals. Saran's attack also shone, however, with Salomon Sonko-Basin and Kenissa Triau-Betare scoring five goals each.
Despite the defeat, the capital club still earned a point that sees them sitting fifth in the National 1 Championship after six matchdays. Meanwhile, the win boosted Saran into fourth place, with the same number of points. Leaders Handball Hazebrouck 71 have 16 points, four ahead of the Parisians.
Our boys will have the opportunity to bounce back next weekend as they travel to Draguignan, who sit just behind the Parisians in sixth, with 12 points. The match will take place at the Salle Carbonel in Draguignan on Saturday 25 October (19:30).
