Born on 20 July 1993 in Meaux, in Seine-et-Marne (Île-de-France), Lucas Digne came through the ranks at Lille OSC, where he made his professional Ligue 1 debut at the age of just 18. His performances for the northern club earned him a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2013. During his first two seasons in the capital, the left-back played 44 matches and provided five assists for the Rouge & Bleu. Notably, he won two French league titles, one Coupe de France, two Coupes de la Ligue and three Trophées des Champions.
On loan during the 2015–2016 season, Lucas Digne continued his development at the highest level in Europe by joining AS Roma, where he made 42 appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists. This successful season caught the attention of FC Barcelona and their manager Luis Enrique, then reigning European champions with the Catalan club. The Frenchman played 46 matches in the Blaugrana shirt (2 goals, 3 assists) and added to his honours list with a La Liga title, two Copa del Rey trophies and a Spanish Super Cup.
After two years in La Liga, Lucas Digne joined Everton, where he quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s best full-backs. Over four seasons, he made 127 appearances, scoring 6 goals and providing 20 assists. Having become one of England’s most influential defenders, the Meaux-born player continued his adventure across the Channel with Aston Villa from January 2022.
Under Unai Emery, the left-footed player became one of the Villans’ key players, making 182 appearances, scoring 4 goals and providing 24 assists. Lucas Digne played a key role in the club’s UEFA Europa League triumph in 2026.
A French international since 2014, he has now made 64 appearances for Les Bleus. A U20 World Cup winner and Nations League champion in 2021, he was part of the French team’s run to the final at Euro 2016 in France. The defender took part in the 2014 and 2026 World Cups. At the most recent tournament, he started six matches and helped the team reach the semi-finals.
Known for the quality of his left foot, the accuracy of his crosses and his consistency at the very highest level, Lucas Digne returns to Paris Saint-Germain with a wealth of European and international experience. During his career, he has played 503 club matches, scoring 18 goals and providing 59 assists. He has also made 57 European appearances in the Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Conference League.
I am very honoured to be returning to Paris Saint-Germain following the wonderful experience I had here more than ten years ago. I am particularly impressed by how the club has developed over the years. The working conditions at the Campus are exceptional and reflect the club’s ambitions. I can’t wait to start this new chapter and put all my experience at the service of the team. Once again, I will give my very best to defend the colours of Paris Saint-Germain
Everyone at Paris Saint-Germain would like to welcome Lucas Digne and is delighted to have him back in the Rouge & Bleu colours.
