A week after suffering their first defeat of the season in all competitions against Olympique Lyonnais, and with a crucial away trip to England to face Manchester City in the Champions League just a few days away, Paulo César’s players returned to the Campus to host Montpellier. And from the very first minutes, Les Rouge et Bleu took control of the ball and patiently built up from the back in an effort to break through the lines and find spaces in Montpellier’s compact defence.
After a tight first twenty minutes in which the Parisians struggled to find openings, the breakthrough came from Paulina Dudek. The captain began and finished a fine move to open the scoring (1–0, 21’). In control throughout the first half, Les Rouge et Bleu saw Léa Morissaint’s attempts go wide (26’, 38’, 40’) but had to settle for a one-goal lead as they headed into the dressing room.
After the restart, Paris maintained control of the ball and the visitors defended stoutly, making it difficult for Les Rouge et Bleu to penetrate into the penalty box. Showcasing her technical ability, Naomie Feller brought the crowd to their feet, but her shot was blocked at the last moment (57'). A few minutes later, it was Olga Carmona who tried her luck from distance, without success (68').
The introductions of substitutes Jackie Groenen, Florianne Jourde and Romée Leuchter brought fresh energy to the pitch and enabled Paris to maintain the intense pressing demanded by Paulo Cesar from the kick-off. It was a tactic that paid off, as the visitors had still not managed a single shot on target as the final quarter of an hour approached. The situation remained unchanged until the final whistle.
At the end of a particularly tight match, the capital club returned to winning ways and provisionally climbed to second place in the Arkéma Première Ligue, level on points with Lyon, who play on Saturday.
Les Parisiennes are all smiles as Paulina Dudek finally makes the breakthrough! Encouraged by a big crowd, Paulo César's charges have renewed confidence as they prepare to take on Manchester City in the UEFA Women's Champions League next Thursday at 21:00 CET.
