Mateo Maras' Croatia take bronze at Euro 2026

After an extremely close match against Iceland, Croatia won the third-place play-off at the EHF Euro 2026 (34-33), confirming their return to the forefront of the international scene one year after losing in the World Cup final.

The Croatians finished their Euro campaign on a high note, lifting after a cruel defeat to Germany in the semi-finals (28-31). Against Iceland, the World Cup runners-up had a nervous end to the match after having led most of the way, but ultimately they secured a deserved victory (34-33). Mateo Maras, who scored two goals in the third-place play-off, will now return to his Parisian teammates with a bronze medal around his neck after a solid tournament in which his team lost only two matches in total.
