Introducing Abdelrahman Abdou
Continental and international experience
Starting next season, Paris Saint-Germain will have a second Egyptian player in its ranks. A year after Yahia Omar joined the team at right-back, Abdelrahman Abdou will be coming in to strengthen the squad at left-back.
Having spent his entire career thus far at Al Ahly, Abdou is now set to enjoy his first stint abroad. However, the Cairo native is not without experience, having won two African Champions League titles with the Red Devils. This double adds to his four African Cup Winners' Cups, five African Super Cups and as many national championships and cups.
I am very happy to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, one of the biggest clubs in the world. It was my dream to come and play here. Paris is a beautiful city and I already feel at home.
Abdou has also made his mark on the international stage - the future Parisian left-back was part of the team that reached the quarter-finals of last winter's World Championship. As he prepares to take to the courts of the Liqui Moly StarLigue, Abdou has already had the opportunity to experience the warm atmosphere of the French public, during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games last year. The Pharaohs' journey came to a cruel end in the quarter-finals after a memorable match against Spain (29-28).
A total success with Stefan Madsen
Under the guidance of Stefan Madsen, the future coach of Paris Saint-Germain Handball, Abdou Abdelrahman has taken on a whole new dimension. The Red Devils achieved a historic six-fold victory on the African continent, winning every trophy they could have hoped for.
Stefan Madsen is an excellent coach. We won a lot of titles last season with him, and I'm sure we'll do the same here together next season.
It was an historic performance both domestically (Championship, National Cup, Egyptian Super Cup) and on the continental stage (Champions League, African Super Cup, African Cup Winners' Cup). Added to these trophies was another XXL performance: third place in the Super Globe last October. The competition was marked by their victory over Barcelona (32-29) in a memorable third-place play-off.
The fourth Egyptian in the club's history
Abdou Abdelrahman joins the list of Egyptians to have played for the Rouge et Bleu. Succeeding Sameh Abdel-Warès (1997-1999), Mohamed Nakib (2009-2010) and Yahia Omar (since 2024), the 29-year-old left-back is now ready to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors.
Apart from Yahia Omar, who played for Zamalek at the start of his career, the two other Egyptians to have played for the capital club also wore the colours of Al Ahly. However, it is with the current Rouge et Bleu right-back that Abdou Abdelrahman has a special relationship. Winners of the African Champions League together in 2024, the two defenders are used to playing together, as demonstrated by their complementary performances at the last Olympic Games and the 2025 World Cup.
Yahia and I are close. We are from the same generation. He told me a lot of good things about the team and the club before I arrived. I can't wait to play alongside him.
This season, several of Abdou's former teammates at Al Ahly have crossed paths with the capital club, including Yehia El-Deera (Veszprém), Ahmed Hesham (Montpellier), Ali Zein (Dinamo Bucharest) and Mohamed Aly (Sporting CP). This is further proof of the strength of Al Ahly's training centre, which has exported many of its talents to the biggest European leagues in recent years. Now it's Abdou Abdelrahman's turn, and there's no doubt that his talent will light up the Liqui Moly StarLigue and EHF Champions League pitches next season.
