Gabrielle, you’re now a professional footballer – congratulations! How do you feel?
“I’m incredibly proud, of course! I’ve come through the whole of my training with Paris Saint-Germain. Over the last three years, they’ve helped me improve a great deal and have literally taught me the game. Everyone has made me feel very welcome and helped me understand so many things and learn a lot. So I’m really happy to be here and I hope to keep improving and performing well.”
Can you describe your style as a footballer? What are your strengths?
“I’m a technical player. My small size gives me strengths that set me apart from others. Technique, body play, ball control… I like to use these to beat my opponents and gain a yard on them. At the moment, I’m trying to improve my passing to break through the opposition’s lines and become a more valuable and influential player.”
Last season was full of excitement for you, particularly with your victory in the Nike Women’s U18 Cup (the equivalent of the Gambardella Cup for girls). How did you find it?
“With all the responsibilities, the start of the season was a bit tricky. I was finding it hard to stay focused during matches. In the end, I focused on myself, on what I needed to do, and I managed to turn things round. And after that, everything just fell into place! What’s more, we won the Nike Cup – and in its very first edition, too. We’re absolutely delighted to have won it. We were so happy to win together. It was absolutely brilliant!”
Your season was also marked by your first appearance for the first team, in the 2-0 win against AS Saint-Étienne at the Campus PSG on matchday 20 of the Première Ligue...
“I was ready and raring to go! When you’re here, with such strong and friendly players – they really made me feel welcome – you can’t help but be happy. I’d been really looking forward to that day, so it was a real source of pride.”
What are your goals for the coming season?
“Obviously, I’d like to play as many matches as possible. That’s where you really get to see who you are. Playing a full season with the first team, alongside all these players, will help me improve enormously. Playing is what I’m after! But above all, I want to improve. Signing this professional contract is already incredible, and being part of this squad will really help me.”
