Camille Masson: "Incredibly proud"

Camille, congratulations – you’re now a professional footballer! What’s your first reaction?

“I’m incredibly proud! Signing my first professional contract and joining the squad is the result of a lot of hard work… I’m lost for words! I feel a great sense of pride and joy, and it’s the result of all that hard work, even though this is only the beginning. I need to keep working hard.”

In that regard, do you think the Campus PSG is a key factor?

“The Campus has fantastic facilities, which allow us to develop all year round. I think it’s a truly unique environment in France. I feel I’ve made a lot of progress this year at this training centre. Everything that’s made available to us is exceptional.”

Last season was full of excitement for you, culminating in the penalty shoot-out in the final of the Nike Women’s U18 Cup (the girls’ equivalent of the Gambardella Cup), during which you proved decisive…

“We were quite confident going into that penalty shoot-out. I could sense the confidence of the team and the coaching staff. We’d practised it in training and knew exactly what we had to do. When I made that decisive save, I felt so proud. I’d also like to thank my team-mates who scored their penalties, because we know that's not easy!”

You also made your first appearance on the first-team team sheet, against Real Madrid CF (a 1–2 defeat in the group stage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League)! What memories do you have of that evening?

“It was an epic moment! Being on the bench for the first time, and in the Champions League at that, is just massive. I really enjoyed it. What’s more, it was at the Campus PSG, at home, in front of our fans, against Real, one of the best teams in Europe... It was incredible to be part of, a wonderful experience. The goalkeepers made me feel very welcome. I felt at ease in the team straight away. I loved the team spirit within the squad, which I think also helped me settle into the team quickly.”

What are your goals now?

“My goals are, first and foremost, to perform well, both individually and as part of the team. I want to keep improving every day and give my very best to try and earn my place in the first-team squad.”
