1 August 1970, 55 years ago: Paris' first game

History
It was 55 years ago today that Paris Saint-Germain played its first game: a friendly against Normandy club Quevilly.

More than 2,000 fans made the trip to the Stade Jean-Bouin to see history being made by the "Red Devils", as the club's players were nicknamed. They were joined by the French Football Federation's Technical Director, Georges Boulogne.

International forward Jean-Claude Bras scored his team's only goal of the game, becoming the club's first goalscorer*.

"I remember very well that first goal I scored for Paris, the first in the club's history, against Quevilly in a friendly," he said. "It was a surprising goal. The lighting was bad, it was raining. Jean "Tchouki" Djorkaeff yelled, "Shoot!". I did, it was a powerful shot and it went it. It was a great moment, unforgettable."

Despite that first-half strike, Paris Saint-Germain were eventually beaten by the more experienced side. Bras regretted the new team's lack of cohesion, which was understandable coming just days after the squad - featuring amateur and professional players - had returned to training.
