Operating in Guadalajara since January 2026, the PSG Academy Mexico has reached a new milestone in its development by bringing its community together for this grand opening day.
Nearly 100 young players aged between 5 and 16, accompanied by many of their family members, took part in the event alongside the technical and administrative teams of the PSG Academy Mexico. Juan Pablo Sorín and Valentin Weller, Head of PSG Academy, also travelled to the event to represent Paris Saint-Germain.
The official ceremony, attended notably by Mariana García de Quevedo Vachez, Honorary Consul of France in Guadalajara, provided an opportunity to celebrate the arrival of the PSG Academy programme in Mexico and to outline the project’s sporting and educational ambitions.
After the ceremony, it was time to take to the pitch. Two training sessions gave the various age groups at the PSG Academy Mexico the chance to put into practice the methodology and playing principles taught across the international PSG Academy network.
Juan Pablo Sorín took part in both training sessions alongside Hernán Celorio, National Technical Director, and the coaches from the PSG Academy Mexico. The former Argentina international spent plenty of time interacting with the young players, sharing his experience and offering them plenty of advice right on the pitch.
This close interaction echoed the words spoken just a few minutes earlier by the former Argentina international: “The PSG Academy isn’t just about training young footballers. It offers children an environment where they can learn, improve, share, build their self-confidence and grow through football. I’m delighted that Paris Saint-Germain is now able to share this adventure with young people in Mexico. Welcome to the Rouge et Bleu family,” said Juan Pablo Sorín.
The Parisian legend then continued to spend time with the young people and their families, signing a card for each child and posing for photos.
This opening day also aimed to provide a practical demonstration of the PSG Academy’s philosophy and the work carried out on a daily basis by its coaching staff in Mexico.
Established in 2005, the PSG Academy is based on a dual approach, encompassing both sporting and educational aspects. On the pitch, the coaches teach a methodology directly inspired by the Paris Saint-Germain Academy, placing particular emphasis on technical proficiency, tactical awareness and a team-first mentality.
However, the programme’s mission extends beyond learning to play football. Respect, commitment, team spirit, self-confidence and a willingness to work hard also play a central role in the young players’ development.
It's a project that is a natural fit for Mexico, a country where football plays a central role and brings together millions of fans. “This Academy is not just another location on a map. It is now becoming a full member of the wider PSG family. The young people who join it will share much more than just a training programme: they will be part of an international community of thousands of children who, all over the world, share the same passion, wear the same shirt and share the same enthusiasm for the Club,” emphasised Valentin Weller, Head of PSG Academy.
Driven by the teams at PSG Academy Mexico, notably its President, Alejandro Rodas Portugal, the project now has nearly 220 registered players in Guadalajara, who are coached throughout the season by coaches trained in the Paris Saint-Germain methodology.
29th August also marks a new milestone in the development of the PSG Academy Mexico across the country. From 7th September, a second training centre will open its doors in Toluca. The PSG Academy Mexico also aims to continue its expansion into other major cities across the country, with Mexico City and Monterrey notably among the next cities under consideration.
Through this project, Paris Saint-Germain is pursuing its ambition to share its sporting and educational expertise with young football enthusiasts around the world, and to enable them to enjoy, in their own countries, an experience fully immersed in the Rouge & Bleu world. In Guadalajara, the PSG Academy Mexico’s journey is now well and truly underway.
