Safonov, Hakimi, Marquinhos (c), Pacho, Zaïre-Emery (Hernández, 64'), Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz (Dro, 75'), Akliouche (Dembélé, 69'), Doué (Ferran, 63'), Kvaratskhelia (Godts, 69').
The first chance of the game fell to Désiré Doué in the eighth minute, but his early attempt was unsuccessful. Shortly afterwards, the Frenchman took advantage of Achraf Hakimi's overlapping run down the right wing to call Lukáš Hrádecký into action for a second time, but the Finnish keeper stood strong at point-blank range. At the other end, Matvey Safonov was forced to intervene just before the half-hour mark, when Vanderson delivered a dangerous cross into the Paris box.
Despite this, it was Les Parisiens who opened the scoring through their captain, Marquinhos, who ghosted in to chest the ball home at the far post after some great work by Warren Zaïre-Emery and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the left flank (1–0, 31'). A few minutes later, the Georgian winger would again cause danger for the Monaco back line with a powerful strike that had to be pushed away by Hrádecký.
After the interval, it was Maghnes Akliouche's time to shine as the former Monaco man showed some inspiration in a duel with Hrádecký, but the Finn was again alert. Shortly before the hour mark, ASM managed to pull level when Nazinho headed the ball home at the far post, assisted by substitute Jordan Teze (1–1, 58'), before the visitors took the lead fewer than 15 minutes later, as Aleksandr Golovin cut the ball back to Stanis Idumbo, whose close-range piledriver found its target (1–2, 72').
Les Parisiens were now in a race against the clock, pushed forward in unison by the Parc des Princes crowd. Having been played in nicely by Ousmane Dembélé, Ferran Torres thought that he had put his side back on level terms with six minutes of normal time remaining, but his goal was ruled out for an offside in the build-up. The Frenchman, who came off the bench midway through the second half, was the standout player in the closing stages, but that man Hrádecký was there yet again to deny Paris's no. 10 in the fifth minute of added time. After an intense battle, then, Paris Saint-Germain suffered the narrowest of defeats to their Monaco counterparts.
The rage of captain Marquinhos, who opened the scoring with his 45th goal for the capital club.
