On Saturday 29 August 2026, the Paris Saint-Germain captain took another step towards becoming a club legend. After a hard-fought battle, Les Rouge et Bleu triumphed over Montpellier in the Trophée des Champions (21–20), enabling Luka Karabatic to win his 22nd title in the colours of the capital club – an all-time record. The Frenchman got his final professional season off to a perfect start, scoring two goals to help his team edge a fiercely contested clash.
This victory takes Luka’s tally of Trophées des Champions to five. In 2015, on his debut for Paris, he won this very title following another hard-fought victory against Saint-Raphaël (29–27), in which he scored four goals. Between 2015 and 2026, our pivot added the 2016, 2019 and 2023 editions of the competition to his honours list. It was in 2016 that he recorded his best performance, bagging six goals in the final against Nantes (35–26).
Luka has been one of the key figures in Paris’s dominance on the national stage over the last decade, particularly in the Coupe de la Ligue, having won three titles before the competition was discontinued (2017, 2018, 2019). In 2018, he scored six goals in the semi-final against Dunkerque (33–26), before adding five more in the masterful win over Toulouse in the final (40–30).
Wearing the Rouge et Bleu jersey, Luka also won the Coupe de France three times (2018, 2021, 2022), proving decisive in the 2021 final against Montpellier (30–26). Appointed captain in 2019, he is the beating heart of a team that has seen many talented players come and go over the years, including his brother Nikola - also a capital club icon, who retired in 2024.
With impressive consistency, our pivot has won the French championship every season since signing in 2015. Following an incredibly intense match against Nantes at the AccorArena on 27 May 2026 (34–31), he secured his 11th consecutive league title in the Parisian jersey, once again proving his team's leading light. In 11 Daikin StarLigue seasons with Paris, Luka has scored a staggering 499 goals, and will have the opportunity to break the symbolic 500-goal barrier during this final campaign.
By becoming the most decorated player in the club’s history, the Rouge et Bleu captain has further cemented his status as a true legend of both Paris Saint-Germain and French handball as a whole. In the coming months, his aim will be to improve on his record even further, with three competitions still to play: the league, the Coupe de France and the EHF Champions League. All with a view to giving his supporters the finest possible send-off.
