GBA Tournament - Hong Kong 2025: An excellent second edition

The Club
Building on the success of the first edition in Macau earlier this year, the PSG Academy Youth GBA Tournament made a welcome return on 27th-29th June 2025, taking a decisive step forward in terms of scale, regional impact and commitment.

A prestigious gala evening to open the tournament

The event was inaugurated in style at a gala evening organised with the support of the French Consulate in Hong Kong and Macao. Mrs Christile Drulhe, Consule Générale, opened the ceremony with an inspiring speech to several hundred guests and institutional and private partners, including the Christian Alliance International School, the largest academic site and main ground of the PSG Academy Hong Kong & Macao.

Two emblematic figures made their mark on the evening: Jeh Vas, master of ceremonies and a well-known personality in the world of football on Instagram, and Yapp Hung Fai, a legend of Hong Kong football, captain of the national team and mentor of the tournament, whose presence was also very well received.

The evening was marked by a variety of activities, including dance performances, a fund-raising event for young people's mental health via the CTF Charity Foundation, and the presentation of a collaborative work by French and Hong Kong artists, celebrating the Academy's cultural diversity.

A high level sporting tournament

Expertly organised by coaches Joseph and Alois, the tournament brought together nearly 30 teams from all over the Grande Baie region (GBA).

The official launch of the competition took place at an impressive opening ceremony, with a symbolic cutting of the ribbon, followed by a match lasting just a few minutes between the celebrities and four young players, and exclusive footage broadcast on TVB, Hong Kong's leading sports broadcaster.

The two days of competition offered a high-level sporting spectacle. The first day had dynamic matches and showcased promising young talent, while highlighting the exemplary commitment of the coaching team.

The second day saw intense and hotly contested finals, concluded by prize-giving ceremonies in four age categories. The PSG Academy teams did the club proud: the U9s and U11s reached the semi-finals, the U13s secured 3ᵉ place, and the U15s made it all the way to the final, losing out on penalties. Shared with guests of honour, the prize-giving ceremony served to reinforce the image of the PSG Academy and its influence on a regional scale.

A lively village at the heart of the tournament

Alongside the competition, spectators were able to enjoy a rich and varied entertainment village, with 30 interactive stands, a wide range of food and drink, and educational activities offered by partners from the insurance and technology sectors, focusing on health and artificial intelligence.

The 2026 edition is already planning an extension of the space and an early start to the festivities to welcome even more participants and visitors.

Stronger ambitions for greater regional influence

Buoyed by the success of the first two editions in Hong Kong and Macau, the PSG Academy Hong Kong & Macau is laying the foundations for ambitious development in Asia. By aiming to organise larger-scale tournaments in strategic regions of the continent, the PSG Academy Hong Kong & Macau intends to establish itself as a major player in the development of football in Asia and strengthen its position within the international PSG Academy network.
