The name of the winner of the 2010 Champions Trophy would only be known after a penalty shoot-out. OM follow on from Bordeux, while PSG showed that they can go into the new season with legitimate ambitions.
In Radès,
The penalty shoot-out started poorly for Paris with Luyindula’s effort hitting the post. With everyone else scoring, Coupet’s save from Lucho gor PSG back into the tense finale. After all five penalties, Giuly stepped up but was stopped by an in form Mandanda. Cissé did not let the chance slip away and offered OM their first Champions Trophy.
Paris had, however, started the match in the better form. Without really worrying Mandanda, Makélélé and his team-mates had possession of the ball and used it fairly well, as shown by Jallet’s cross (3’). Pushed on by a stadium turned over to their cause, the Olympians reacted through a Lucho free-kick (11’). The encounter was intense and following a header from Camara (22’), OM replied in the same way with a powerful effort from Diawara which went just over the bar (25’).

Neither side wanted to give away any ground and the encounter was at times tense (1 booking each in the space of 30 minutes). If Marseille had the ball, the clearer chances fell to PSG. Luyindula would comfort this statistic coming up in a one on one with Mandanda following some great play by Makélélé. A little tug on his arm from Hilton was enough to unbalance him and the Parisian forward was unable to get his shot in on goal (37’). OM took their turn with a shot from Valbuena, but Coupet was well positioned and able to pick up the ball after a wicked bounce (39’). Yet another attack from Nenê was stopped by Mandanda (42’), then a shot from Cissé which was slightly off target (43’) brought an end to an interesting first half.
The encounter got back underway under the watchful eyes of the 57 900 spectators at the Stade du 7 Novembre (a new record attendance!). The heat and the fatigue consecutive to an intense first half, meant that the second half was played at a slower rhythm. Only the entry of Ben Arfa brought some panache to OM (66’), while PSG waited for the final fifteen minutes to launch some more offensives. Nenê, hit a shot that was blocked (90’), but especially Luyindula after a little festival of play in the penalty area (87’) came close to finishing off the matrch before the penalty shoot-out. It was not to be … We now turn to the Tournoi de Paris with a number of exciting matches scheduled!
