No, the season is not over yet! After 120 minutes of agony and an epic shootout, PSG are through to the last four of the French Cup. A win, but also a huge boost for the capital club in this ’match of the season’, as coach Antoine Kombouaré called it before the game.

Both sides made a timid start at an empty Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps. In the opening 45 minutes, there was only one real chance falling the way of Auxerre when Niculae’s long-range lob was tipped over by Edel (23’). After the break Les Parisiens were more dangerous through Hoarau (51’), Giuly (73’), Sessegnon (85’) and Sakho (86’), without success. The home side’s only chance fell to Jelen, but he was denied by Edel (75’).

Les Parisiens gave it everything in extra-time to try and make the difference before the shootout. Kezman’s header crashed off the post (105’) before Hoarau saw his effort flash just wide of Riou’s goal (112’). But there was to be no change to the scoreboard and it took penalties to separate the two sides. The first fie for each side made no mistake, until Quercia faced up to the PSG ‘keeper… Saved! Makelele made no mistake and PSG are in the semis.

Kombouaré’s side join giant-killers Quevilly (CFA) in the next round and can really start dreaming fo the Stade de France. Because don’t forget that every time PSG has beaten Auxerre in a domestic Cup, they’ve gone on to lift the trophy!
