PSG 1-0 Toulouse

Match Report | 2010-02-21 | 00:12

A week ahead of the visit of Marseille to the Parc des Princes, PSG defeated Toulouse 1-0 thanks to a 22nd-minute penalty from Guillaume Hoarau.

Without a win since December 23, PSG produced a spirited performance to earn a precious win over Toulouse. But it wasn’t easy...

Without Stéphane Sessegnon, suspended, Paris made a bright start. A Cearà corner (12’) and a Luyindula charge up the left (16’), set the Parisians on the right track. Toulouse was on the back foot and Ebondo, the last defender, dragged down Luyindula in the box. Red card for the TFC defender and penalty for PSG! Hoarau stepped up and sent Pelé the wrong way (1-0, 22’). Minutes later Braaten got the better of Camara and crossed for Kazim who fired just the wrong side of Edel right-hand upright (30’). The half-time break arrived right on time for the capital club.

After the break, Pelé produced two good saves: the first from a Hoarau header (48’), and the second from Erding’s deflection (55’). At the other end, Edel could only look on as Capoue’s header from a Machado free-kick came back of the post (64’). A minute later Capoue then fired of the other post but again, the ball stayed out (65’).

Paris sat back to weather the storm and hit on the counterattack. From a Jallet corner, Hoarau headed down and the bounce cleared the crossbar (70’). Ludo Giuly then struck a wonderful volley that Pelé just managed to tip over (80’).

Les Parisiens can take a moment to savour a victory that sees them close in on the top half of the table and the fact that, for the third game in a row, they kept a cleansheet, after Vesoul and Nancy. It bodes well for next Sunday’s visit of Marseille.
