Paris led for a long time at the Stade Gerland thanks to Mevlut Erding’s 11th-minute goal, before conceding two late goals after Mamadou Sakho was sent off on the hour mark.
Doubtful before kick-off, Apoula Edel started in goal for PSG, and there was a second start for the season for the strike pair Hoarau-Erding, who had already proved their worth against Evian last weekend (3-1). Back from the Africa Cup of Nations, Stéphane Sessegnon completed the visitors attacking line-up.
PSG made a great start and Antoine Kombouaré’s side translated their early dominance into the opening goal. Sessegnon’s corner picked out Mevlut Erding at the front post and the Turkey international turned the ball home (1-0, 11’). High on confidence, the Parisians laid siege to Vercoutre’s goal. Unfortunately, Hoarau, twice (14’, 22’) and Erding, again (26’), failed to beat Lloris’ understudy. For his part, Edel had to be alert to deny Kallstrom (36’), before being helped out by Hoarau after a deflected shot left him stranded (40’).

PSG led at the break and continued to pressure the home side’s goal in the second half with an incredible triple-chance to Erding and Hoarau (50’). Les Parisiens just couldn’t find the second goal to take the game beyond Lyon and then the game changed on its head. Mamadou Sakho brought down Gomis who was clean through on goal (60’) and was sent off with a straight red car. A man down, Paris was on the back foot and Delgado (67’) and Gomis (74’), before finally cracking under the pressure. Gomis equalised from a corner (1-1, 77’), and then Cris completed the hosts’ comeback with a precise header (2-1, 81’). Despite an excellent performance, PSG left the Stade Gerland with nothing to show for their match. Infuriating!
